About me

by jtaylorgaskell

A background in Fine Art, teaching and a love of textiles has led me to tapestry weaving. The dyeing of fibre or yarn can often be the starting point ( like a palette ) for a project as well as sketch books and drawings. The aim is always for simple yet powerful design.
The simplicity of the tapestry weaving technique belies the visual complexities possible. This dichotomy can fascinate and beguile ( and frustrate ) those who pursue this art form. However it is those very challenges that can engage, sustain and lead to development.
Innovations in structure and loom design have recently led to shaped and 3D tapestries. Very exciting!
The sharing of spinning, weaving and dyeing skills has led to many demonstrations and workshops in community settings where this wonderful craft has the power to bring people together.
